Our New Location

Our humble beginnings

AAR was born in a leased liquor store that we converted into a tiny shelter with a small lobby, one room for spay/neuter surgery, and two small rooms for rescued cats and dogs.

Although it was exciting to get started, we knew we wanted more.  It took about 3 years, but with the support of several major donors, AAR purchased one acre with a large building on it. Now we were able to shelter about 30 dogs, 20 cats and have a large surgery. With more community support, we purchased the 5 acres behind the Hufsmith location. Our plans were to build a 10,000 sq ft brand new building on the back of the property. But building codes and the shape of the property made this dream impossible with the money we had raised.

Building a better future for pets

So, we started looking for more buildable lots. In 2016, after looking at numerous properties, we purchased 7 acres in Magnolia. AAR has started work on moving its operations to this new property. The large 2-story house with a 3-car garage on the property will become the Offices, Lobby, Cattery and Clinic. The dogs will get a new kennel with indoor/outdoor access. The grounds will include an interactive dog exercise area – Clark’s Bark Park – in memory of a young dog lover.

Our funds allowed us to purchase the property outright with enough left over to remodel the house, and construct the kennel; the Clark’s Bark Park funds are reserved.
