Imagine being able to make a real positive impact in just 15 minutes. A new study has revealed that that’s all it takes to make a difference in the life of a dog.
It’s been well documented that human interaction has positive effects on dogs in general, but a recent study we led found out that just a single session of close human interaction with even an unfamiliar person has a measurable impact on shelter dogs, in terms of behavioral and physiological changes. This impact is visible in dogs which have displayed anxious behaviors, as well as those which have not.

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Best Friends Animal Society Conference in Dallas.  What an experience to be around such amazing people in rescue.  For 3 days straight, I attended a variety of seminars and learned a lot.  Best Friends goal is to have the US no-kill (i.e. 90% live release) by 2025.  Can you imagine?
She attended seminars on Mastering Technology to Save More Lives, Managed Intake, Cultivating a Community of Pet Fostering, and many more.

Best Friends unveiled the Community Dashboard at their annual conference this past week. This is an interactive tool that shows exactly how communities are doing with saving animals. Right now Delaware is the only no-kill state. California and Texas are the worst for euthanizing. Shelters are really working hard to save lives and transport is helping with this tremendously. Best Friends goal is for the US to be no-kill (which means 90% or higher live release) by 2025, and I truly believe this is possible.
