LOOKING FORWARD
. . . words from KarenWe are so excited to kick off 2019! This is going to be the year where we really focus on recruiting new volunteers, fundraising, and marketing for AAR.  The board has been working on a few new things and we are excited to share with you.First off, in early February, we are beginning a volunteer appreciation incentive.  This will be a way to thank our current volunteers and to recruit more volunteers.Cat Yoga anyone? Our cat volunteers are planning a cat yoga class at the shelter once a month. The money raised will benefit AAR and will get new people into the shelter.Because it was a huge success, we are going to hold our A Night in the Dog House again in November.  This event will replace the golf tournament. The golf tourney goal was to raise funds for the new facility and now that the new shelter is a reality, it is time to try new things.2019 events include AAR’s Wine & Beer Tasting (March 24th), Ice Cream Social (April time frame), and Pancake Breakfast (Dec. 7th tentatively). So . . .Thank you for supporting AAR and Happy New Year!

Karen Pitcock, Incoming Executive Director

CELEBRATING 2018’s ACCOMPLISHMENTS
. . . words from Debbie
So with the end of the year upon us, I just wanted to wrap up what has been going on around AAR in 2018.Hard to believe that a year ago, the barn was still not finished! There were no indoor or outdoor kennels built; just an empty barn shell. What a difference 12 months has made! The cattery moved into their new space in the renovated house in March with the dogs following a month later in April. WOW! These past 8 months have had their share of additional projects to complete our original vision for the facility. We’ve added a closed-in porch for space/storage for the Cattery, shade covers over the large and very hot outdoor spaces outside the dog barn, raised/covered walkways, fencing and gates galore, covered kennels for overly energetic furry guests, separate quarantine rooms, a memorial garden for our furry friends who have passed on, and a paved roadway and Dog Barn parking lot (the front parking lot to be done in the next few months). Although we probably will never truly be COMPLETE as needs will continue to evolve, the end is starting to come in to focus. As I wrap up these projects, I will also be wrapping up my time as Executive Director of AAR.Effective January 1st, I will be stepping down as and handing the torch to Karen Pitcock. I will still be on the Board, and plan to be around in the coming year to continue to help out and make the transition go smoothly. Karen will have Board Members Sandy Oliver, Wendy Airlie, Anastasia Thormahlen, Mary White, Marla McNeilly, Gary Robinson and Founding Board member James Gordon, to help her run things around AAR.  Karen has a lot of great ideas on how to take AAR forward into 2019 for even more great things.

2019 will be an exciting time to be a volunteer at AAR. I thank all of the volunteers for their support during my time as Executive Director, and invite anyone who hasn’t experienced the reward of volunteering to join AAR’s team.

Sincerely,
Debbie, outgoing Executive Director

Why AAR Needs Volunteers – 2 Hours a Week is All We Ask!

  • Volunteers mean all money goes towards animal welfare – no salaries!
  • We need 50+ volunteers EACH DAY to care for the animals, staff the front desk, staff the adoption center and maintain the shelter.
  • Volunteers are AAR’s fund-raisers – they chair events, staff booths and represent us to the community.

Abandoned Animal Rescue is entirely managed and maintained by volunteers.

This means that all the money raised or donated goes towards caring for cats and dogs, and maintaining the quality of the shelter and its grounds. AAR raises money through adoption fees, clinic fees, donations from supporters, and fundraisers.
